It is sometimes said that the Vikings were the greatest storytellers of all time. The idea is not that their stories were the greatest, but that they had the presentation positively nailed down. You can do the Iliad about that quick if you gloss over the long lists of names of Greek warriors. The Song of Roland works too, for that matter.
