Saw "Watchmen" last night, and it was meh. Too long, the sountrack would be a great complilation on its own, but hardly ever fits the mood. Most of the character development is squeezed into blurbs in the opening credits, and the story takes FOREVER to get started. Oh, and the (very graphic, full frontal) sex scene in this one is absolutely the ( Read more... )

He wore it at first because they told him to. He was a poster boy symbol for nuclear war. After he stopped giving a shit, he just let it all hang out, so to speak. Honestly I think movies need more schlong if only to balance out the over-inflation in tits over the years. It'd be nice if putting a few dicks in a movie didn't immediately make it x-rated. And honestly, no one should be taking anyone even remotely young to a movie that's rife with severed limbs, buckets upon buckets of blood, realistic rape scenes, etc.

This guy wrote a pretty fanboyish review of the sex scene in question. It's a bit over the top at points, but he does raise good points as to why it matters.

I guess the trick here is that my sister isn't young, she's 19. She loves Zombie movies and GTA Vice City. Violence is something she can handle. However, she has Down's Syndrome, so there are still some things that are just difficult - impossible to understand. She gets the concept of "bad guys" and why they do what they do, so the blood isn't quite as much of a problem.

Hi there!

I'd wondered how they were going to approach the issue of Dr. Manhattan's big flapping penis. In the graphic novel, he's naked ALL THE TIME. I couldn't see how that would translate to film. I'm a little relieved to know that they just didn't care. Back when I worked in a video store, I learned specifically what differs an X rating from an R. They can show as much dick as they want in an R-rated movie as long as it doesn't "stand at attention".

You're not the first person to comment on the graphic sex scene. I can't wait to see it, but this means that I won't be seeing it with my Mom. :)

I don't think I would have been bothered if it was just NEVER covered up. I may not have really even noticed it as much. It was the fact that his choice to wear something to cover it sometimes was totally arbitrary and just drew more attention to it.

I think what bothered me about the sex scene was that the romance between the two characters was poorly developed by the screenwriter. It seemed as if they had to just suddenly fuck in order to get the point across that they were diggin eachother. If there had been a buildup to it that made sense, or if it felt like the culmination of some intense desire, I don't think it would have bothered me. Graphic sex never bothers me really, it just seemed misplaced here and I'm not sure why but it made me really uncomfortable.

Well, as I re-think it, it wasn't so much the schlong that bothered me. It was the fact that they felt the need to hide it sometimes and not others, which really made it hard for me not to constantly look at it just to see if it was showing or not. Really took away from everything else for me.
