I remember starting with the overlay of black/white to make shadows and highlights. Then I found out about the dodge and burn tools, and started using that more often.
And then I realized all my art looked shitty. I began to use colors instead of black or a darker version of the base color and my coloring improved by, like a million.
Burn and dodge are used for photomanipulation. They shouldn't be used for art :|

I wished...he'd post more work in his blog :U or had an online gallery or something. I bought his artbook, but I imagine there's got to be more from him than that. Even some posted sketches would be badass from this guy.
