This is what parents with mid-life existentialist angst do, I thought. That was the only tangible reason I let myself buy into. by the time we realize that parents are just as humanly fickle and unsound as the rest of us, we're already at an age where we've almost become their equals. it's just strange, and scary, that our childhood admiration and staunch belief in their perfections unravel so much as we grow older. blah blah blah. i guess saying something like "oh plz feel better" would be a moot point, but it's good to recognize what we do have now and hold onto that as much as possible.
