Not bad for your first time! I like the song and how it totally matches the Devil Bats and their efforts to improve themselves with no intention of "turning back". So the theme worked well here.
Technical wise, the editing could've been cleaner. I made this mistake a lot, so no worries. Just look out for clips where the previous scene makes a short, less than a second debut that is a bit disruptive and try to cut a little more accordingly. Some scenes felt draggy although I cannot blame you for that as I can see you were trying to match with the song, yet the overall effect was that some scenes went really quickly and then it suddenly slowed, so it was jarring. Subtitles were distracting but I cannot blame you for that either.
Nice use of effects especially towards the end. I thought that captured the mood perfectly. So great job on that! Looking forward to more AMVs from you. ^^
I think the answer to the editing problem is to re-examine the clip choices. Instead of making them fit unnaturally, why not use a better clip?
For the next AMV I'll download the RAWs. That should eliminate the subtitle issue. I had to edit around them somewhat (the keyboard scene for example I kept them in actively for the sake of keeping the video from being more jarring than it was).
I do have a question, do the scenes, in their order, make sense? I wanted there to be an overall 'story' there.
You can still use your current clip choice, just edit them properly so that a different, unnecessary scene doesn't appear in a split second. It's pretty simple, yet it can be tricky, that's all. XD
Yeah, getting raws would help a lot! Certain scenes did seem a little awkward, even with the keyboard scene, but you worked around them well enough.
Hmm... pretty sure there was. Like initially there's the fear of getting into it, then the struggles and the plans to overcome them (which was victorious by the end of it). That was pretty much most of what I got from it.
I thought I had gotten rid of those actually. I'm pretty good about that kind of stuff actually, what I think happened is that there was an issue with the rendering when I went to save it as an .avi. And I don't think I can use *all* of my clips mostly because of the timing issue you pointed out either. To make clips fit I had to adjust their speed and well, you can see what that did. Unless the reason things were being weird was my choice of pacing, then that also involves a lot of clip readjustment.
If I could have removed the subtitles from the keyboard scene the hands typing would have been perfectly synced with the music (oh trust me, it was glorious!). However, that scene did make me edit what was on Hiruma's monitor which I felt was my coolest special effect of sorts even if it was short.
I really wanted to have a sort of overall 'story' the AMV was telling. I wanted the scenes to make sense as a whole in the order presented. Not sure if all of my transitions worked to that effect, but I hope they did....
