Inland Revenue. They will give you a new NI card if memory serves correctly and they make you send them the old one, although I explained that somebody had stolen it and they didn't mind.

LEAs generally tell the Student Loans Company for you IME.

Ah so NI card isn't from the DSS.... Cool. I lost my original YEARS ago, so I'll explain that and get a new one. I never needed the card itself as I know the number by heart.

I'll keep the LEA to Student Loans in mind. I need to make sure that the different parts of the LEA know, cos they don't share info well as I found last yr when some of them didn't realise I'd had a year out of uni.

Thanks Muchly.

Not to mention FINALLY eh :) I've been meaning to do it for AGES.

I am glad I went to the solitor which makropulos recommended last month, they were quick and friendly, I'd recommend them again even though it was a 40 min walk there.

Congratulations!

It's going to cost me over $300 to change mine and I shudder at tht thought of even amking out the notification list, but it will have to be done.

My change was supposed to start happening in January, but too many bills came up to justify the expense. :-( So now it's pushed back to August.

Ouch! 300USD..... *wince*

Here we can do it more expensively by deed poll which costs between 25 and 40 quid as a rule depending where you do it, but I figured since it is such a minor change it wasn't worth it.

We have the data protection act which allows us to request that any organisation holding data pertaining to us has to update and amend incorrect or out of date records (name change counts) and if they don't we can kick off big style.

That way a stat dec will cover most of what I need and its just a case of informing people.... Thankfully people have reminded me of stuff I hadn't thought of which is helpful. I even got the uni and the bank to have no title just to see if they will, I don't care if they put a title, but it was worth asking for those who don't want titles for various reasons....

Hope you are able to afford everything in Aug.

300 is just for the required newspaper advert. That doesn't count the fees for the actual change itself.

As for titles, every time I try to request no title on anything in this country, I start getting stuff addressed to "Mr." I think all the computers are set up to default to the masculine title. Once I've finished my grad work, I'll probably be evil and make everyone address my stuff to "Dr."
