I thought you would like it. I know it doesn't necessarily do anything which Citeseer, ACM, Jostar etc etc do, but it's currently subscription free, and it does actually work.
We chucked kim's dad's name into it and got a load of his papers coming up on it, so I'm convinced for medical stuff.
I chucked my dissertation search stuff into it and grr'd that it wasn't around 12 months ago. Still I will be playing with it and introducing my mum to it, cos her main problem is handling all the different ways of searching online. It came up with some of the stuff I think she needs when I tried some of her stuff in it...
At the risk of being super-original... Wow. Actually modified wow. I must find if there is a way to get it to list some things that aren't appearing at the moment. But what a great development!
You can use all the usual searchy wossnames like +, - and AND, OR, NOT. "stuff in Quotes" and Google has a ~ option which allows you to search for synonyms...
If you tell me what you want and I'll hammer it with 1337 searching skills and get back to you on what works if I can get it to work.
I shall go and put your name in and have a nosy.... I must get round to doing that for all my academic friends.
It will be massively useful for my mum, cos she's finding the searching difficult on electronic sources, it's bad enough getting her to use a computer at all.
Oh yes. Personally I consider it cheating to spend 20 years working on a book, get it published by the British Library, and then submit same as a PhD thesis, with the result that her examiners were her two best mates and someone who'd always wanted to meet her. On the other hand - nice job. She was then planning on giving up but having written about this guy's work, people wanted her to write about the bindery and press that he founded. She pointed out that she had no funding for the research. John Paul Getty wanted to read the sequels, so sent her a cheque for travel expenses etc and told her to come back for more when necessary.
She's currently editing the only existing prison diary of a suffragette, which is rather cool.
