Does anyone know how to tell the difference between earache and TMJ or wisdom teeth pain? I suspect I have 1 or both and really cannot be arsed dragging my lazy backside to the Drs.... ( The rest of this entry is boring... )
well i think with an earache the outer ear will usually be red and swollen/inflamed. it would also be faverish if you touched it. with TMJ, it feels as if there's an intense pressure on your jaw and it makes a noise like it's cracking. it also can hurt immensely when you eat something chewy. with Wisdom teeth the gums are usually inflamed and sensitive and you can feel the imrpession of the tooth if it's growing in. it may also hurt to bite down on that area
Yeh... I've had problems with my ears before even when not infected, its one of those things which I ought to be mega careful of.
I definately have the wisdom teeth thing an orthodontic consultant told me I needed them out, but that he wouldn't do it, cos they are tangled in my facial nerve. What worries me is that they are causing a lot of hassle and will NEED to come out, I can't live on ibuprofen and other painkillers for more than 2 or 3 days at a time without being very sick.
I called the Dr this morning, but was too late to get an appt, its exam period so probably busy as hell. Pain isn't so bad, so if it isn't bad tomorrow I'll fuck it off till after I've been in hospital; if the pain comes back at all today I'll get it checked out (this is my registered Dr which will be 100% less hassle than anywhere else).
