History

Saphir Wyon Neis (Dist's real name) grew up in the snowy city of Keterburg. Saphir was a prodigy when it came to fon machines, and was very intelligent in most other areas. However, in all areas other than fontech, he was outshone by his best friend (in Saphir's opinion, at least), Jade Balfour. For some reason, Saphir admired everything Jade did, and enjoyed spending time with him, despite the fact that Jade teased and ignored him constantly. The boys went to a private school run by former oracle knight Gelda Nebilim, a healer capable of using the seventh fonon. Saphir admired her for her intelligence and kindness, while Jade mostly wanted to learn how to use the seventh fonon (the only fonon he was incapable of controlling, and the only one necessary to perfect his technology of fomicry (the ability to create replicas of a living thing)). They were also friends with Peony, the future emperor of Malkuth- although Saphir's relationship with him was iffy, as he saw him as competition for Jade's friendship, and decided he hated him (although he still included him in his group of friends). They (along with Jade's younger sister Nephry) had a happy (although somewhat abnormal) childhood in Keterburg.

However, when Jade was 12, he decided to attempt to use the seventh fonon, despite his inability to do so. He and Saphir stayed late after school one day with Professor Nebilim. While there, Jade attempted to use the seventh fonon, and ended up lighting the house on fire while doing so. Nebilim was mortally wounded in the explosion, and Jade lost consciousness. Saphir managed to get the two to safety, but the healers were unable to do anything to save Nebilim. When Jade awoke, he decided to try one last thing to save her- fomicry. He would make a replica of their beloved Professor, and thus everything would be okay. Saphir warned against this, as Jade was unable to make stable replicas without the use of the seventh fonon, but Jade insisted that, as he was Jade, it would work out. Saphir decided that this was true (after all, if anyone could do it, it was Jade) and allowed his friend to try. However, as expected, the process failed to create a stable replica; the replica it did create survived, but was mentally unstable. It attacked a nearby guard and fled, leaving the two children behind. The real Professor died, and Jade was unsure of what to do. But then Saphir spoke up- if he helped Jade by building fon machines that could safely gather and manipulate the seventh fonon, they would be able to perfect fomicry of living things and create a new replica of the Professor.

Jade was adopted into the Curtiss family, a very respected military family, and went to the capitol of Grand Chokmah to continue his research. Saphir went as well, and together they managed to make fomicry of living things work properly. However, they discovered a major issue- no matter what they did, the originals almost always died, and those that didn't suffered major consequences down the line, including a huge drop in life expectancy. When Peony (who by this time was the Emperor) found out about this, he urged them to give up their research; Jade obliged, and told Saphir this. But Saphir didn't want to give up the research- him and Jade had promised one another that they would bring back the Professor, and he didn't want to break that promise. But Jade would not continue, so he bid Saphir farewell. Saphir decided to continue his research anyway, and make a replica of the Professor on his own- surely if he made one, Jade would realize the error of his ways and come back to him. But laws were put in place to make it illegal to perform fomicry on living things, and Saphir had nowhere else to turn.

Until he was approached by Van Grants, commandant of the Oracle Knights. Van had need of fomicry for his schemes, and Saphir was in need of someone to allow him to do his research, so a deal was made. Saphir gave up his old life as Dr. Saphir Wyon Neis, and became Dist the Reaper, God-General of the Oracle Knights (although he insists that his name is in fact "Dist the Rose"). Dist worked with Van to create a replica of the entire world and its entire population while working at the same time to perfect fomicry so that he could create a perfect replica of the Professor. However, he didn't have the data required to replicate her; but Grand Maestro Mohs did. So Dist worked (secretly) for him as well, even if it went against Van, as getting the Professor's replica data was extremely important to him. While helping Van, he accidentally created a perfect isofon (an exact duplicate of the original; most replicas, while very similar, had distinct differences in appearance, personality, or abilities, as well as a different fonic signature (i.e., DNA), while perfect isofons were more equal in most areas and shared a fonic signature); the original child was Luke fon Fabre, who was taken in by Van and renamed Asch, while the replica was returned to his family.

Finally, Van's plan was coming to an end. The replica Luke set off (accidentally) on a journey, and among his group was Dist's friend Jade Curtiss. Because of this (and the fact that Luke was going against Van, although mostly because of Jade) Dist continuously sends his robots after the group, and continuously fails at defeating them. Then, at the Tower of Rem, he is defeated yet again; he pushes a self-destruct button on his robot, and is prepared to die with it- and everyone assumes he did. He somehow survived, though, and decides that, since he can't create a new replica of the Professor, he'll simply rescue the original replica from where it's been sealed. So he follows the party there when they go to fight her, and is struck down by an attack she launches at him. Yet again he is thought to be dead, and yet again he somehow survives, only to follow to Grand Chokmah, where the party went to talk to Peony about the Professor's replica. There he is finally arrested, and put in jail in Grand Chokmah for treason and leaking military secrets.

Personality: Dist is a genius, and therefore speaks very much like a scholar; however, when he's angry, he resorts to childish name-calling and temper tantrums. He acts as if he were a complete narcissist, constantly bragging of his own beauty and intelligence; but much of this seems to be an act, as he has times (when he's caught off guard, typically) where he doesn't act like that at all. Dist is greatly obsessed with Jade, and becomes extremely upset or angry whenever Jade refuses to acknowledge him or insults him. But Dist also seems to have a soft side; he made Anise her Tokunaga doll because she was kind to him in the Oracle Knights' mess hall when nobody else even acknowledged his presence. Dist also is fairly effeminate, wearing flower petals around the collar of his shirt and constantly bragging of his own beauty. He also wants to bring the Professor back so that him and Jade can be friends again, so pretty much everything he does revolves around one of them.

Strengths:
- Dist is incredibly intelligent; he's most definitely smart enough to be considered a genius, and is almost as smart as Jade.
- He is an excellent fontechnician, able to construct incredibly advanced fonbots and other fonmachines.
-- Dist is just good at anything having to do with machines, and can most likely figure out any new machine very quickly (especially compared to most others from Auldrant, since the world isn't incredibly technologically advanced in most areas). Nothing mechanical is a challenge for him.
- He also has some skill with fonic artes, although how much skill he really has is debatable as he never uses them. He does have enough ability to be able to perform the complex arte to infuse people with fonons (it wasn't his fault Mohs turned into a monster afterwards...)
- Dist can survive practically anything; he may seem down for the count, but he most likely will be perfectly fine soon afterwards. He's easily survived being blown up by his own fonbot self-destructing, and also survived being hit by an attack from the incredibly powerful Nebilim replica.

Weaknesses:
- Being a scientist and scholar, Dist is physically weak, and not really capable of fighting physically at all.
- Dist is very immature emotionally. He is easily obsessed, takes offense to pretty much everything, and throws tantrums at the drop of a hat. He especially hates being mocked, or even being referred to by what he feels is the "wrong" title.
- Dist is convinced that he's pretty much the most attractive thing around, hence his calling himself Dist the Rose. This is pretty important to him (for some strange reason), and doesn't take too kindly to being told otherwise.
- Or being told that his nose is running.
- Or just being insulted at all.
- Or ignored.
- Basically, Dist is crazy and needs to be the center of attention, or he'll throw a fit.
- Also, he's obsessed with Jade. Extremely obsessed- although he'll deny it if you point it out, as he's far too beautiful/intelligent/something else to be friends with someone like Jade. In reality, though, pretty much everything he does revolves around Jade; even his devotion to fomicry and reviving the Professor is entirely because of him.
--He's also obsessed with making a replica of the Professor, although it's not as much as his obsession with Jade.
