Afghanstan is better off without the taliban if we actually try to change it. If we do what we're doing now (stay in Kabul while the rest of the country descends into inter-warlord feudal strife (i.e. exactly the sort of conditions that brought about the Taliban in the first place)) then it isn't.

Revenge? Ok. But if the Afghanis get discarded like used tissues after the US feel sbetter, then the 'west' is no better than they are.

It's misguided to think that only a few sick men wanted 9-11 to happen. The attack on the WTC wasn't the first - a carbomb was detonated in the early '90s with the purpose of knocking one tower into the other. The WTC attacks of last year were planned after that by the same people (allegedly, Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeida) and this time carried out successfully ( ... )
