So some of you may remember that UPS downsized but I made the cut - I just had to transfer to a different department. Another one of the ladies in our building got to keep a job as well but had to go part-time ( Read more... )

I can't think of any advice to give you because it sounds like you are doing everything right! OMG, I got tears in my eyes reading this. I think this is wonderful!
You are doing a great thing! *hugs*
I hope your co-worker and her daughter work things out. Just think how happy her daughter is going to be when she finds out that her mother is going to accept her. :)
Your post is the best thing about my day!

I agree, it sounds like you're doing an amazing job. And hopefully with PFLAG she'll be better able to understand and accept her daughter. It's wonderful that you are going with her, because those first few meetings when everything comes at you so fast, and you feel all alone, those can be the scariest.

It can be tough to escape the religious dogma that she probably been fed since birth. But surprisingly there are a number of devout theologians that have voiced their support of the gay community. My only suggestions would be to read the following articles by Reverend Patrick Chen, a seminarian, ordained minister, and openly gay man: the Spiritual Significance of Pride, "Love The Sinner, Hate The Sin" And Other Modern-Day Heresies and Sin As The Closet, Grace As Coming Out: Rethinking Sin And Grace For LGBT People Today.

Wishing you and Rosi the best of luck.

Thank you so much for sharing Barbara! I personally think that it is wonderful that you have reached out to your co-worker, and that she truly wants to try and understand her daughter a little bit better. That alone is a good sign.

I haven't had any similar real life experiences, but I believe just being there to support her and not "pushing" is a great approach. Sometimes being just a friendly ear and or sounding board for another person's fears and concerns can make a big difference in that person's life. I wish everyone involved all the best!

I also wish there were more understanding and caring people such as yourself and other members of the L/N fandom in this world!
