Have you tried either ice or heat - applied directly to your head. I usually ice migraines (shrinks the blood vessels). If you don't have an ice pack, you can even use a bag of frozen corn or something. Or wet a washcloth and put it in the freezer for a few minutes.
I agree with Karen, washcloth on the head has always worked wonders for me. You need to have a silent, dark room when you do it.
Also, the plumber is going to be working in the house today so the key is under the mat, help yourself to whatever's in my magic drug drawer that you think may help (although I must warn you that the muscle relaxers have never helped my headaches).

I don't know if you could at least use reading glasses, if that could help the strain?
