Title: There is Discord Tonight
Pairing: Polly/Jadis
Rating: PG
Summary: A chronicle of why Polly never got married and never fell in love again after she met Jadis. Set during "The Magician's Nephew", but I basically just did my own thing so there aren't any real stories and it doesn't really follow book verse.
The first time Polly had seen Jadis, she was shocked by the beautiful, perfect woman in front of her. Jadis had long black hair, fiery eyes, and alabaster skin: everything Polly wished she was. Polly never admitted how much she admired the witch. She felt if she admitted how much she adored the old queen of Charn.
As soon as Polly had seen Jadis, a great fear took over her, as if her heart was warning her to run away, to just get out of there. But, that stupid little Digory boy had to ring the bell and bring that fearsome creature to life.
When the queen started taking long strides toward her, Polly knew that this woman had pride, power, and disdain for anyone lesser than her. Polly became terrified that this mysterious woman will never pay any attention to her. Polly felt so disdainful when Jadis only paid attention to Digory. She hated everyone: Digory's uncle, the mad magician, Digory, the foolish child who had to let curiosity take over, and Jadis, for being so captivating yet ignore Polly, knowing how breath-taking she was and reminding others how they will never have her.
The more Polly got to know Jadis, the more Polly hated and loved her. Jadis proved herself to be courageous, bold, smart, and let us face it, never take a shit from anyone. Polly started to try and imitate her, but she could never stand up to the goddess in front of her.
She was never jealous that Jadis had Digory's attention. No, she can keep him as her little pet. But, the fact that Jadis practically begged for Digory's attention: needed it, wanted it, did anything for it. No matter how much Polly fawned over Jadis, no matter how many compliments, how many stares of wonder, how many compliments on her taste, there was nothing she could do to get that single look of appreciation, that little twinkle of realization in her eye of how much Polly felt for her.
When the shear evil of Jadis was revealed, Polly ignored it all: all the warning signs, all the proof of Jadis’ wickedness. To Polly, love could overcome such boundaries, such obstacles, such impediments. Polly thought that when Jadis realized how Polly would never abandon her, she may want to treat Polly with more respect, more kindness…
That never happened.
There is a reason Polly never married: she was too enraptured by Jadis. Jadis never left her thoughts, never just left her alone.
There is a reason Polly’s heart warned her to get away from that terrific woman: it realized that lady would break Polly’s heart, noticed right away that Polly would fall in love. Polly’s heart did not want to go through such pain: to love someone so much and to be ignored, to feel so much yet to be cast away as if some scrap for a dog, some rag that will be used as a bandage for someone else’s wound.
