Alas, spiders are so often blamed for nocturnal bites. Most spiders have neither the equipment nor motivation for piercing human flesh. More likely you are the victim of an unseen biting fly of some kind, or some other insect, such as an assassin bug (scary!)

Anyway, sorry you have been bitten, it sounds very uncomfortable. If you're DR. House brand painkillers don't inhibit your ability to read, check out these relevant articles.

I get a server error when I try the links, making me sad. The vicodin hasn't kicked in yet. They gave me 20, which may be dangerous.

I knew you'd have some good info for me. Certainly I'd like to think it wasn't a spider. although I'd maintain my arachnid love even if it was.

"Most spiders have neither the equipment nor motivation for piercing human flesh." I figured I was about to roll over and squash him/her, and it was a self defense thing. And they've got scary ones down here!

I usually defer to Jef on these kinds of topics but I have to mention that recently my boss was bitten on the finger by a brown recluse and almost ended up losing said finger (was in the hosp for 48hrs and on IV antibiotics).

*shudder* I tried to keep calm and not think the words "brown recluse" because that shit is too scary. I had a client once who had a hole in her hip you could put a finger into from one. I went to the doctor as soon as I determined it wasn't a zit because I don't want my butt to fall off!

He was baffled because he didn't feel a thing until 12 hours or so after he could've possibly been bitten (most probably the spider was hanging out in his work gloves - stored in a backyard shed and bit him when he put the glove on). The bite was freaking SCARY looking.

Well that sounds more than a little disconcerting, to have your finger going... wrong for no apparent reason! I'm glad it could be saved.

Okay, I can read them now. I haven't come to any conclusions as to what was, but I sure am glad to hear that the North American Conenose doesn't deficate while feeding. That's a relief.
