Lately I have been so busy it has left me no time for documentation. It brings my favorite John Burroughs quote to mind.

The crows seem to be coming to my back yard more often. If Minnie layed her eggs around april and it took about 3 weeks for the eggs to hatch, it seems that she must have chicks in the nest by now. Perhaps they will be out of the nest by July? I'm wondering if they will bring them to my backyard? Upon researching baby chicks I couldn't ( Read more... )

As each day goes by my 3 crows are getting closer and closer. When I appear on my back deck they fly up to nearest tree, and watch me. When I go back in they return to check out what the offerings are within a minute. A couple days ago I noticed a 4th crow pecking about the ground. For awhile it seemed I was seeing less of my 3 crows. Perhaps they were nest building, house keeping etc.? Lately they seem to be around every day. So it's safe to say from the group of crows that were around in late February and March, these 3 were the ones to favor this corner for a regular feeding area. I have not been documenting much lately as most of it would be redundant information. Generally I only see 2 or 3 crows pecking about where I generally scatter the left overs. If I throw out a pork chop bone, it dissapears quickly.

I started out with 1 bluejay, and now I have about 5 of them. They seem quicker and smarter then the crows. ( Read more... )

After putting out the chicken pieces I once again put my computer by the window and put on the crow calls. Much to my dissappointment I had no visitors at all! So yesterday was not a note worthy day. Yesterday was rather eventful, as the crows landed randomly through the day. A few days ago I came across the crow busters web site, on decoying and calling crows. Everything on there is for the crow hunters. I can understand the farmers having a gripe against crows, when they ruine their crops. But for the people that take up crow hunting ( Read more... )
