My grandmother is Polish and for the holidays we always make her pierogies. Her recipe is made with cabbage, bacon, onion and cheese and it's the only kind I knew about until college.  It was there I discovered most people only knew of pierogies made with mashed potatoes (which I thought was very weird). I've grown to appreciate the potato pierogie
