Music, costume and props (WAS: Quick questions)

Feb 03, 2014 20:30

Hello Bardcampers.

This was originally about me being disorganised and struggling to work out what things I might need to do in regard to costume, props etc. It is now a general discussion about music, props and costumes for Bardcamp 2014. Knock yourselves out!

[I am also e-mailing the participants in this scene for a heads-up and seeking input]

There is a song and dance in Antony and Cleopatra, Act II scene 7.

Mark Antony says "Come, let's all take hands"

Music plays. DOMITIUS ENOBARBUS places them hand in hand

THE SONG

Come, thou monarch of the vine,
Plumpy Bacchus with pink eyne!
In thy fats our cares be drown'd,
With thy grapes our hairs be crown'd:
Cup us, till the world go round,
Cup us, till the world go round!

They are all supposed to be fairly drunk, so I don't think any elaborate choreography is required (we could just go round in a circle) but we do need to sort out a tune, and a quick google only turns up a fancy multi-part version sung by Exeter University which doesn't look suitable.

We have a version of this in the Bardcamp songbook, arranged by Chris J. I can't remember how complex it is.

Failing that, it could go to a number of well-known tunes including 'O Tannenbaum' (if you repeat the first two lines at the end), or 'Come Landlord Fill the Flowing Bowl' with minimal tweaking, or 'Goodnight and joy be with you all' or probably zillions of others.

I can bring my sword, as I am bringing my guitar.

It is quite big. It has made many Bardcamp appearances before. You may borrow it. :)

Are there any plans to have some kind of sheet to act as a tent for Hecuba? It's not essential, but it might be nice to have the tent entrance marked out in a useful sort of way depending on what the configuration of rooms is like.
