A friend,
windsingerbard, suggested I x-post this here...
Courtly Love
The courtyard sways with banners
The gallants woo the maids
The minstrels sing new sonnets
The wenches ply their trade
The great hall bright and festive
The din of revel's play
Fall silent as you enter
And shyly make your way
All courtly prim and proper
You float on graceful wings
And warm me with the sunlight
That your beauty brings
Your place with titled gentles
My place below the salt
Do I dare compare with you?
Do I confess my fault?
How noble your demeanor
Like armored etiquette
A parried glance
A distant dance
With one I've never met
Allow me to have dreams of you
And love thee from afar
Deny my patient yearning
It's proper where you are
One day I'll wear your token
Though pride be deadly sin
One day I'll tilt in tourney
And thus your smile win
