an old skill coming back to me

I had great fun today with a puzzle. A friend forwarded a message she had received in Morse code and asked me to translate it. I didn't think I'd be able to do it without looking up the alphabet (that would be cheating) as the only Morse I can remember these days is my own name. I am very impressed! The only time i have used it was to propose to M, and I looked it up on the net :)

I used to know the whole alphabet. I was totally into codes and ciphers as a kid and my dad taught me Morse code because he used it for his work. He also taught me radio code, which is surprisingly useful, and I still remember that one - helped by movies and cop shows :)

Wow, I am impressed too!
I remember talking to an elderly friend of my folks who was a WWII signaller. He said that signallers can hear who was signalling - there were differences in the way that they tap out morse (presumably only noticeable to people who listen all day!). He said his style was very musical - it had quite a 4 4 beat to it.
