I know it would be an adjustment, but I think you should go for it. It sounds like a great opportunity.

I don't know if this would be feasible, but if you take the job, you could consider living outside the city and commuting. My hometown, Media, is a cute little town, but it's not too unreasonable to take the bus or train into Philadelphia (I think the train ride is about 45 minutes). There are some nice areas in the less-remote suburbs too (though some are full of rich people).

yeah, i thought about the suburb thing too. My friend who works at the school lives in teh city, but i may look around and see what works the best if i were to get the job...keeping my options open right now.

erinpuff just beat me to it -- I was going to suggest something similar: finding an affordable suburb and commuting. (I seem to recall Christina LaVecchia doing that while she was working in Philly...) You'd have the perks of the city, but a place to escape to (I say as a fellow non-city person).

Because that job sounds very, very cool -- and I think you'd be good at it -- and I think you should go for it.

(PS. I'll be back in PA next year, and would totally be up for roadtrips.)

hm....if i were to get this position i may talk to ms. lavecchia and see what area she lived in. i know the school is somewhere in the center of city, though i'm not positive of where. i like the way you think though ;) and i will keep you updated

I think you should at least apply. What's the worst that's gonna happen? They say no. You still have your job.

And even if the job is in Philly, you don't have to live in the city. My hometown is at the base of the Walt Whitman Bridge in NJ. A lot of people from my town work in Philly, and it's peaceful.
