Ow. Suck. Yeah, I'd had that happen once before, too. Once out of the 20 years or so that I haven't worn shoes outside whenever I could help it, I got stung. Wow. I hiked several weeks on the Appalachian Trail barefoot. Never got blisters. Never got stung. Sometimes, life just happens. That's no reason to not go out and experience all the life you can touch.
I suspect some people just love to point at people who do things they wouldn't dare to do, and then say "Such-and-such happened because you did [Thing X]," thus justifiying their own fear of life.
Good for you, refusing to wear shoes. Your mom will never know the raw joy of life and feeling you understand.
