Driving to Colorado

I drove through Idaho today. Yes, Idaho. What a place. It is all one uniform color: lion. For miles and miles, but at least it has some elevation variations. I'm sure the locals call "mountains" what I would call a "hill." You could close your eyes and walk and walk and walk for a long time with out bumping into or fallin off of anything. Ah, the barren drive of I-84... My dad was from Blackfoot, Idaho so I know the state. If you're doing that, if you have time, cut north to Craters of the Moon National Park to find some slightly more interesting Idaho. It is also near the INL, home of the first nuclear reactor to produce electricity. Now if you want to see the pretty part of Idaho go across the north. I-90 is just fine even. Coeur d 'Alene (despite the rape that mining did to the waterways) is an amazing area. The Bitterroots are spectacular. And of course NE Idaho is the west gateway in to Yellowstone, one of the most truly spectacular places on the planet ( ... )

You think Idaho is bad, you should drive due west through Kansas with the sun blazing in your eyes the whole time. 12 or so hours of nothing but wind blowing so hard against me that my moving truck was getting 4 miles to the gallon (not kidding) and all I saw was one tumbleweed and one (thank god) gas station, at which I had to use all of my weight to wrench the door open against the wind, which then literally blew me into the store. Oh, wait, I also drove through a blazing fire, yes black smoke and actual fire across the road in the middle of nowhere. Aside from that I almost went blind from the beige-ness.
