My last day at Starbucks... for now

I know it just seems like I posted to announce that I had my interview, then actually got the job, but today was my last day at Starbucks. My job was officially for only the Christmas season and would be renewed if they had enough hours to keep me going. Sadly, there weren't enough hours to renew the contract ( Read more... )

Oh, the 'praline' thing. My partner (erm, life-partner, not SB-partner) is from Newcastle, so we went home to the UK for Christmas. I was surprised to hear his brother say that he's allergic to nuts and therefor can't have praline.

Now, I'm used to praline, in the US, being a slightly crunchy caramelly thing made with brown sugar, butter and water, and with whole or chopped pecans put in (but often left out). In the UK, praline is, essentially, hazelnut butter mixed with chocolate.

I must admit, I was disappointed. I love US style pralines.

I never really thought about the whole UK use of the term praline despite living here. To me, a praline is the the US definition. It explains why I expected differently. And I love US style pralines too. So delicious.
