It's like, you know the particle accelerator Skya(?)'s dad worked at at MSU? It's sort of like a super-ultra-mega one of those that could either recreate the conditions present at the big bang, or create a black hole... Or any number of other things, I don't think anyone is quite sure what will happen...
Now that's one big toy for some big nerdy physicist kids...
I dunno, I really don't objectively know what the risk factor is-- like, the chance that something bad will happen. I think it's pretty low, from the little I've read about it. And if a black hole develops, that'd be pretty fucked up, but maybe it would take many years before it sucked up the world, so that 2012 shit would end up being accurate after all.
Against my better judgment, I do kind of think it's pretty cool to try what they're doing, even if I don't completely understand it...
