It's such a shame more people don't do or say something when they see something suspicious. Surely it's better to annoy someone by accidentally interfering than later realise you could have stopped something awful.
I've read a few articles about the child abduction statistics in the US being pretty skewed by things that turn out to be not an emergency at all. So I find it hard to be shocked by the crazy-high statistics, but still, that's really not the point. Those alerts are a great idea.
I think there's a perception that you can't call the police until some time has passed and you're out of searchable options, or the police will think you're wasting their time, or tell you to wait. I don't know why that is, just writing it sounds so appallingly ridiculous. Or maybe sometimes people are so scared and panicky and busy searching that they take a while to even think of calling police.
Anyway. Good on you, I say, for spreading the word. &you;
i was kind of hoping that if i could spread the word, it would make a real difference, but it didn't work. i'm trying pretty hard to not be disappointed.
the number of abducted children statistic may be slightly (or even more than slightly) skewed -- i can see how that could happen -- but the statistics for cases that end in homicide are far more accurate. it's the saddest thing ever.
i did try. i put that link on every social networking site i have, and sent it to people with a lot more followers than me, but either they didn't notice, or they didn't pass it on. it made me sad, because i think it's important information for americans to have, and they don't even know it exists. i work for law enforcement, and didn't know it existed. *sigh*
