While my gym does have some pretty lame-and-removed-from-reality rules regarding lifting (like no chalk or gym bags are allowed on the floor), they aren't this ridiculous:
Pay real close attention to the gyms rules -- a lot of the time they are good ones but they like to throw bullshit in a lot of the time -- apparently to keep real weightlifters out (we don't want people actually learning how to do the exercises correctly now do we?).
Wow, that's really lame! I've belonged to several gyms in all different regional areas. But even when I went to Lucille Roberts on LI, they always had 2 gyms: one upstairs, just for ladies, and another downstairs, for "the Conans" as we liked to call them, and ladies were welcome to work out down there, at their own risk. Meaning, only, that there would be some huge guys down there (and believe it or not, there were) and it would a piggy man environment, and you just had to know that going in. There were some women who worked out down there, but they were usually professional body-builders.
Unless this guy was excessively rude and disgusting, which the article does not indicate, I don't see what the big deal is...
