 Character
Fandom: Vampire Hunter D (novel series)
Name: Baron Byron Balaz
Birthdate: January 16th, 30 million some AD
Age: Appears in his late thirties, in reality around 80 years old
Physical Appearance: tall, wild blond hair, gentle but slim features.
Education: Typical education for vampire Nobility--incredibly versed in the sciences, particularly biology
Occupation: None in his own time, although he had been planning on taking over the running of Krauhausen from his father after he killed him.
Significant Other: None. Miska had promise, but being raised very traditionally, things would have taken a long time to develop. Maybe a few hundred years of engagement, followed by a wedding at least twenty years in planning, depending on how particular she wanted to be.
Sexual Preference: Straight. Not that men haven't tried.

History: Born as a genetic experiment in creating a "new nobility" Byron was born to his father, Lord Vlad, and his mother, the tragic Lady Balaz, and taken from them for three months after birth by Dracula, The Noble Ancestor. No one knows what transpired during those three months, but as time passed, it became obvious that Byron was special--being able to operate in shrouded daylight, even, for short periods of time as long as there was no direct sunlight. His father grew steadily more and more jealous over time, and by the time the young Baron was about six, Vlad had tried to murder him several times. Eventually his jealous rage was deflected to Lady Balaz, who he trapped forever in the lake below the castle. When Byron was in his 60's, he was banished from his father's castle, the great estate city of Krauhausen with the challenge to return in twenty years, as a man ready to kill him. Byron spent much of his time wandering, studying humanity. As a student of The Noble Ancestor, Byron believed very firmly in a cooperation between humans and vampires--in a kind of stewardship, but a fair one. Although it is unknown how this came about, Byron was exceptionally good with children, and possessed unbelievable self control in his feeding, when he fed on human blood at all. He fulfilled his promise to return to Krauhausen to kill his father, but the crafty Lord Vlad activated a time/space booby trap that transported his son to Aternaville.

Personality in seven words or less: Humane. Sarcastic. Fiercely Loyal. Stubborn. Philosophical. Chivalrous

How Others Perceive Your Character: Not your typical vampire. Occasionally arrogant as he still falls back on many stereotypes regarding humans, but otherwise a kind and intelligent person. Very accepting and willing to go out of his way for others.

Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: A fervent student of The Noble Ancestor, Byron is of the belief that humans are to be observed and studied, and not treated like food or cattle like many vampires tend to treat them. He is incredibly honorable, unless he witnesses something he regards as unpardonable--a woman or child in distress--or wanton abuse of another Noble's vast powers. Byron is an almost obsessive philsopher and naturalist, and many of his convictions revolve around that.

Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: Byron was caught in a time/space trap his father set in the castle and ended up in a random pocket dimension (Aternaville)

Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: first and foremost, Byron wishes to return to his own time and settle the score with his father. Barring that, he wouldn't mind settling down and continuing his work in proselytizing the old ways--trying to get across the idea to other vampires than humans aren't just a handy snack, but vitally important. He's a humanitarian and philanthropist at heart, oddly enough.

Twenty-Questions for the Characters:
[Note: These can be one word answers or fragments. If any of you've seen Lipton's 'ITAS' you know how this works]

1. What turns them on: Blood and the thought of it coursing through an attractive young woman. Like it or not, he still has to battle his own nature.
2. What turns them off: Powerful people who prey on the weak.
3. Would they see a shrink: Byron believes the best therapy is a walk in the moonlight.
4. Worst Childhood experience: When his father tried to kill him by placing his coffin in an unprotected courtyard before dawn. There was a timer set on the coffin lid so that it would open just as the sun rose. Lucky a loyal human servant, Frezetta, saved him before he wasted away. He was six.
5. Favorite Film: Byron has a passion for human representations of The Noble Ancestor, although very few survive in the time he's from, let alone the means to watch them.
6. Favorite Song: Valse de Lune. Any classical music to do with the moon or stars
7. Favorite Word: 'humanity' the concept is a curious one and he still struggles with it, but it's a comforting word to him in general
8. Least Favorite Word: "Rain" or "running water"
9. Favorite Curse Word: "By the gods!"
10. Best gift ever received: A cloak from his best friend at the castle, Yona. It is blue brocade with gold embroidery
11. Sound or Noise they hate: the sound of water
12. Sound or Noise they love: night sounds--insects, the wind.
13. Do they know the answer to 64 million dollar question: No, and he has no illusions about not knowing it.
14. [Complete the sentence] ... All the world's a stage... and those who manage it must manage it well.
15. Did Yoko Ono really break up the Fab Four: What?
16. Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee: Who?
17. Half full or half empty: Definitely half full.
18. Coke or Pepsi: Blood or synthetic plasma, thanks
19. If they were a Jellybean flavor, which one: Grape--it's a staple, solid and reliable.
20. And, finally, if Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? "I couldn't have asked for better." To Byron, The Noble Ancestor is God, and he would want to know that he did a good job in perpetuating the old ways of the Nobility.

Sample Journal Entry : [1st POV (150-1000 words)]

I can no more tell if it was a blessing or a curse that I find myself here--the sky is a twlight no one alive in my own time has ever known. There are no terrors in the dark, no reason at all for the protections and percautions that have been indispensible my entire life. If anything, this place is the picture of ideal--something from the old, old stories The Noble Ancestor used to tell, although I can never remember hearing them. They come in flashes of memory, not my own, I'm certain. What is certain is that I will come to love this place, if it is in fact true that I cannot return to my own time.

Sample RPG : [Third Person, Character in Situation (150-1000 words)]

The carriage trundled into town out of a deep, flawless twilight, the same color as the horizon itself; pulled by a full team of horses but curiously without a driver. The horses brayed and sniffed nervously for a long moment as evening seemed to hold it's breath, even the insects coming to a pause in their late summer harmony. In that pause, the side of the carriage's ornate body opened. A tall, regal figure stepped out, taking in the puzzle of street behind and ahead of him; a cloak of navy brocade and gold embroidery swept up, making the sound of a flock of sparrows taking off to roost. Elegant, smooth features were stilted in moderate concern as a crown of wild golden hair set to waving.

"I'm going to kill him." The man--Baron Byron Balaz said simply.
