Hi there! I looked into it at one point. It is WAY less problematic, (not to mention dangerous), then the Gastric. It can also be undone!(Which is a plus) But if you have checked into it,I'm sure you already know this. If I could do one of them, the band is the one I would do. Now the reason I didn't do it was because my insurance said no. I even had my Dr argue with them. They still said no. But it's ok. I found another way. I started hobbling around the block in April 07... By August I was walking... come November, I was running in my first race. The weight is not coming off as fast as it would with a Band, but it is coming off! And I feel SO much better! I have lost 18 pounds since Sept 23, 2007. (I use Weight Watchers to keep me honest about how much I weigh). Let me know if I can help. ::squeeze::
Aside from the obvious dangers of the surgery itself, lap-band has only one major drawback - if you do not change your lifestyle, you WILL re-stretch your stomach. You also don't get the added benefits of increased metabolism or physical fitness that comes from doing it the "old fashioned way". That said, if you have been approved, you've been approved for good reason- if you have a metabolic issue, or have struggled even with putting in alot of effort, then this is a great way to stop beating yourself up and get healthy!
Hey, what did you have to do to get approved? I know up here you have to have a sleep study done (for sleep apnea), then there is the psych consult...
I have a new doctor to help me lose weight and we discussed surgery. I would do lap band over gastric bypass.
So far I've just been cutting back on the crap and eating more fresh fruits and veggies, and hitting the gym at work. My weight is going down slowly. She and I are going to see how much progress I am making and figure out a plan.
