What do you do with Tulips?

My mom got me a beautiful basket of a dozen tulips for Easter. They were gorgeous when they bloomed. They all had at least 2 blooms per stalk, some even had 3! They were solid yellow with a blue inner ring ( Read more... )

Honestly, I don't recall any of our neighbors cutting back tulip foliage or anything like that, once the plant was finished blooming ( ... )

Awesome! Thank you for the advice. I never thought of saving the eggshells....great idea! Ok, so I'll keep watering the greenery to keep them alive, and then I'll give it a shot and plant them outside somewhere!

It's super-important to clean out the egg shells *thoroughly:* wipe away all the white, and then *rinse* thoroughly, too, and get out the membrane on the inside of the shell if you can get it, and then let dry before stacking them in a small ramekin (nest the halves into each other, then the next shell into the first, and so on) or they'll stick and when they break apart they're like jaggy pebbles instead of egg shells ( ... )

Also, after they have been yours for a year or so, they are totally edible! Just the petals - they taste like a lettuce. So pretty in salads, or you can stuff crab salad into a whole head...

The stamens are bitter, though, and some people are allergic to them. Mildly, but look for numbing on the lips.

I would wait at least a year, though, of no pesticide use!
