Plus, Japan is one of the biggest nations in the world now anyway. They could do whatever they fucking wanted and nobody would give them shit. It seems as though everybody loves Japan, as well as Canada.

Gotta love the fox network. They're all nut jobs over there.

Their only redeeming quality: The Simpsons (which is odd considering how many liberal views that show supports).

Well, it's not really that simple. Japan needs our support, because without it, North Korea and possibly China would be serious threats to Japan's security.

Matt Groening gets away with so much shit because he knows he can. He loves to trash on Fox network, and they can't do anything about it because the Simpsons is their highest-rated show.

I see what you're saying, and it makes perfect sense. Yay for Matt Groening. Boo for China and North Korea...

in a perfect world things would work like that. You and I both know that leaders do what they want to do, and the sad thing for Japan is that Koizumi is about at the end of his ropes, the average Japanese Prime Minister lasts 14 months or so, not that long. But the real issue with weither or not Japan should commit troops is that the people of Japan simply do not want a military. It took two or three years of lobbying on behalf of the Japanese Diet to the public to win approval to send an army engineer team to Cambodia, they were engineers! So you could say that Koizumi is being controlled by the people, he has not sent in troops.

Yeah, but I don't see why the Japanese public should be considered at fault for not wanting a strong military. Who is anyone else to tell the people of Japan what they should want for their country?

Koizumi is an elected representative--therefore he should answer to Japan, instead of Japan answering to him (and thus likely to George W. Bush, indirectly).

oh i agree, i am just saying that as much as we want it to work that way it doesn't.
As far as the japanese military, their constitution strictly forbid's a "offensive" military. And there are some political scientists and anthropologists who feel that the Japanese are a unique group of people who do not challenge authority, if their constitution does not give permission for an offensive military then that is why they don't have it.
The Japanese public really aren't at fault, and i can understand their wishes to not engage in military activities. Over the last 50 years they have enjoyed an amazing economic boom, and are now a world leader, they have done this by focusing on economic strategy rather than building up a military. So why would anyone want to change what they have got going now.
