I can ask Patty at the CHS, since she does our event and outreach programs, and has a lot of local museum experience and contacts throughout the SFBA. What is your field/which position are you applying for?
I have a couple of acquaintances at the Presidio Trust, but I'm not sure if that is too many degrees of separation. OMG to live around the Presidio! A friend lived for a time in a gorgeous apt in Laurel Heights... rented because the owner was just holidaying indefinitely in Europe.
I'm an art curator/registrar; I'll be applying for the "Associate Registrar, Collections" position. I heard about the job on the listserv for users of our collections management system (EmbARK).
I'd love any and all information, from "somebody said the work environment there is weird" to "their gift shop is awesome!"
The museum's only a few-several years old, so no-one I know has been. I'm trying to get my dad & stepmom to venture off the peninsula and go visit. :)
OK, that's helpful! I've also gotten friendly with one of the curators at the CHS so next time I'm in I'll also ask if she knows anyone there or has any info to share.
Are you looking to get a point of contact there to reach out to? Or just recon about the environment?
But if Patty knows someone who knows someone who's looking for someone with my skills, I'd love to talk. When my resume is done I'll make sure it's somewhere anyone can see it.
I really appreciate this!!
The idea of up and moving back to CA is absolutely terrifying (and not in the fun way) but right now I have to look at it as just gearing up and testing the waters. There are very very few places there who would be willing to interview me: for jobs at my level a place won't pay for the in-person interview expenses, let alone moving expenses should I be hired.

Anything's possible.
