nirvana - the real nirvana -'s "tiny goddess" was more than just a turntable hit - a single that was chosen as a favourite by a dj or three and it gained popularity with at least a part of their audience, but didn't quite make it to the top of the charts; in "tiny goddess"es case, it was chosen as one of the last discs of the week on radio london ( Read more... )

I really love Rainbow Chaser! This is a great song by a great group.

It's interesting how group names get reused.

*g* - it was certainly different; and had an unusual subject (for its lyrics), even for the time. and i think i like it quite a bit better now, than i did at the time.

I think the release of 'Tiny Goddess' was a case of unfortunate timing. It was picked as John Peel's climber (not Disc of the Week, I'm afraid) and played during most of the final weeks of Radio London, reaching #24 the Fab Forty. After the majority of the offshore stations closed on August 14th, there were only the two Carolines, possibly Luxembourg and the odd show on the Light Programme left to play it. Sadly, by the time time Radio One arrived on 30th September, 'Tiny Goddess' had been lost beneath a pile of new releases.

thanks for the correction, mary (climber, rather than disc of the week);

and i'd competely forgotten there was any hiatus between the marine broadcasting law coming into effect and the launch of radio 1, let alone a month and a half;

Tiny Goddess's disappearance could also've resulted from something johnnie walker commented on about radio 1 somewhat later; the djs & producers of what were regarded as singles shows were virtually forbidden to schedule singles perceived as being uncommercial, b-sides or any lp tracks not also released as singles. [ref: johnnie walker's autobiography, whose title i can look up if anyone asks]
another consideration is that there were still three or four ( ... )
