i think thats a shame. i've pretty much decided that writing is what i want to do and am content to have mediocre jobs untill im famous.

Then that's what you should do. I'd never try to put anybody off the idea of becoming a writer, this post was simply to say that it's beyond my own abilities.
Big dreams don't really suit me.
