Lynn Mckenzie clinic 2007

I thought I'd post some of what we did at the Lynn McKenzie clinic I went to.

We started with a jackpot race during which she video taped us to see how we ran. Nothing fancy. I won a whole $2 ;) (The entry fees were $1 lol).

Anyway, after that she split us into two groups and there was a demonstration about correct hands and seat. She really broke down the mechanics of her "stepping out" and how a horse turns. She explained the reason why she rides the way she does and explains how she came to figure out what she thinks is the most effective. Last year Murray came to the clinic as well and when one group goes to work with Lynn, the other goes with him and analyzes the runs from the morning. Then there's the switch. Anyway, we worked on the teardrop shaped turns and mostly trotted through, then loped through. She explained the turn and why she likes it and we worked on stepping out and correct hands. This is also the time that bits and saddles get changed if there is a necessity.

After the riding and video analysis she did another demonstration on equine maintenance and health care. We talked about hoof care and dentistry mostly but she also explains saddles and why she designed hers the way she did. She didn't really try to sell it, really she just said why she did it. She's pretty honest and a good teacher.

Then we did the second jackpot run, and of course again its video taped.

The next day we had a demonstration on playing the "mental game" and again worked harder on the pattern. This time she focused more on our questionnaires we filled out so that she could work on our individual problems.

Anyway, I just want to say that I learned a lot at the clinic and had a lot of fun. I've gone two years in a row and I would recommend going to anyone. I hope that I can go again next year and bring both my horses but we'll see if I can afford that. Because, I will totally pay for a stalls if I do that, it'll be so much easier. Anyway, ask me questions about stuff if you want, it'll help me remember stuff.
