So I know it sounds as if I'm down on Australia a lot of the time, but to be honest I think a lot of it could really just be a bit of a 1/3rd-life crisis or something.  The truth is that the opportunities and lifestyle we have here in Melbourne are better than anything we'd had in Canada or New Zealand.  The main example really is that both Phil ( Read more... )

this is good to be hearing. it was a big risk and big undertaking, so it's reasonable to see that the adjustment would also be fairly big. but now that you're settled it's time to enjoy it.

and if it were a 1/3 crisis, you'd have a porsche in the driveway. ;)

I think the main thing is that the move was harder than expected. I really felt this time how staying in one place is not a bad thing like I used to think. I suspect that it comes from having gone through such a tectonic shift when we moved to NZ and living through it, at the time the youthful enthusiasm made up for the pain of relocating away from the familiar. This time just wasn't the same.
