A Very Convenient Fact

Last night at the Academy Awards, An Inconvenient Truth won the Oscar for best documentary, which I'm actually pretty happy about.  The problem is that Leo Dicaprio and Al Gore seemed very cuddly with themselves because they've apparently "made the Oscars more green".  Certainly it's a good effort, and any changes to what's being done is a step in ( Read more... )

Exactly. I mean it does give people work - setting up, catering, tailoring clothing that's only going to be worn once, etc - but overall these shows are just bad for resources and the environment.

So, does this mean that, in your view, we should stop making films altogether? I'm sure the waste from the oscars is a drop in the pond compared to the massive amount of time, money and energy that goes into one feature film.

I'm sure that's not your point of course. But the fact of the matter is, if we as a people weren't so quick to give all that money in the first place, they wouldn't have a big ceremony.

The whole Algore thing annoyed me too, but mainly because everyone was, if I may be so vulgar, sucking each other's dicks about it.

No one talks about how Green the movie-industry is, or how they're helping the world by making their productions Green. They know how much of a waste it is, but so is everything else we do in America!

My problem is just with calling something Green when it really is far from that...
