Somehow I haven't heard of this show, but everyone seems to be into it. Is this a BBC series?

Indeed! It's called simply "Sherlock" and it's a modern-day take on the franchise. There's so far two seasons. It's a neat format, too. Each episode is 1.5 hours long, very cinematic and allows for a lot of twisty development! There's 6 episodes total, 3 in each season. The first season is available streaming on Netflix, if you're able to watch, I recommend checking out the first episode at least! I'm a big fan, love the stories (of course), the actors are great and the cinematography is beautiful!
