Well, part of the reason why I've been so busy is because I've been embroiled in local politics (which is quite unlike me). As you all know, I am SO PISSED at how high our property taxes are here. Besides our interesting, progressive community, our neighborhood is a little pseudo-podunk old farming town. Most of the farmers are (sadly) selling the ( Read more... )

Are you sure you don't live in Cook County?

You know, it's funny how we have different political leanings, but we can definitely can agree on something like this. It is no longer a matter of party lines.

I think you have every reason to be upset and I can't tell you how great it is that you've become involved. My dad has done a lot of local, grassroots political things. It can be very tiring but you learn a lot in the process. You'll learn who your true friends are and you'll make some great new friends in the process.

Right? Yeah, partisan politics have gone right out the window - liberals and conservatives will work together on stuff like this. That is actually pretty cool!

Cook County- haha. Right?! Please, the whole state of Illinois is completely messed up. It's one big Cook County, really. :)

I guess we were both raised in Cook County, right? I must admit that growing up I had no idea that our politics were known nationwide. Where else can your dog and dead grandmother vote?

It'll be interesting to see if the Mayor runs for re-election after recent events.

I hope you're able to knock some common sense into your local politicians.

I think that b/c I grew up in Cook County, I am very cynical that any of our efforts will actually make a difference. However, living in a smaller town is kind of neat because it's easier to find out who your politicians are and what they are up to (at least, on the surface). So, that part is kind of exciting, I guess!

Wow - what a mess! Good for you for getting involved. It's hard to say what the outcome will be but either way, you'll know you tried.

I am fully expecting the outcome to go the way of the developer (deep pockets) - but you are right. We're trying. :)

We are a Grayslake neighborhood that's half in Grayslake schools and half in Mundelein schools. So freaking bizarre.

I wouldn't say it's barren out here - but, it's definitely nothing like Naperville or Aurora. Gurnee is more like your suburb - but Grayslake still has a lot of farm land and a lot of white-trashiness. ;) Prairie Crossing is where I live - and we are a funny little community. If you google it, you'll find a bunch of stuff on it.
