The Key to that last post was that Detroit Tigers are in the American League. But in 1887, the Detroit Wolverines were in the National League. And the player was called Sam Thompson.

"restore the roar" I like that phrase, it struck me as funny for some reason, maybe its something you'd read on a get well card to a lion or a tiger? :)

Hehehehe. Naw they were the Wolverines. They went defunct, and when baseball was started in Detroit again, the Tigers, they were in the AL as a co-founder.
