Hello, yes. Ahem.

You have reached Commander Menaeus of the IACC-Uesugi. Obviously, as this is a recording, you will have to leave a message here, and I will get back to you whenever I can.

Questions, comments, etc, as long as it doesn't involve my giving out of personal or classified information. Talk to you soon, my lovely crew.

Hey, Men--uh, Commander. This is Oliver--Oliver Day. I know I'm part of the Hawking's crew, but I wanted to talk to you. You told Orion that you'd seen something--images in your head. So have we. [pauses] What did you see? Maybe if we all knew more about it, we could figure out what it means.

[he almost doesn't respond. like Oliver said, he isn't a part of his crew. however...]

You have done, huh? [crushes the end of a neo-cigarette into something off-screen. he looks a bit...twitchy and not at all his weird self] Anyone else?

[he's surprised to receive a response, actually. he's a bit too used to Ganymede] Oh! Uh, lots of us, actually. Well, you know us. I don't know about the regular crew.

Some of us even saw the same thing.

[frowns and sets a filter on this conversation] Only you otherworlders, huh? [he pauses for a second, lighting another neo-cigarette.] Did any of them see a mausoleum plaque? Or a picture of two scientists?

[She's going to cut right to the chase, starting off with a firm tone.]

What is going on? You have risked the safety of the people here in delaying the ships. Why is there information missing from the database? If there is some problem, there is little use in keeping us uninformed. The people here have shown they are able to do all they can to solve problems.

If the information in the databanks appears to be altered, is it possible there is someone on board that is working against us?

[any other time, he might've given her a good telling off for taking that tone with him, but instead, he throws her a half-hearted reproachful look as he simultaneously takes a puff from his neo-cigarette and sets a filter on their conversation] I stand by my decision. It's my duty as commander to protect my people, and that's what I did for the one and only time I've been able to. You must understand I'd rather perform my investigations in private, taking advantage of the situations on the planet instead of trying to conduct it while trapped in between two ships in the middle of deep space. I had every intention of informing my crew once I had all the evidence I needed of things going on, but that opportunity was robbed from me.

But I wish I knew who had tampered with the databanks. Throw them in the airlock and eject them into space myself if I could. Whoever did it was extremely careful to conceal their identity.

[In her current state, she has no memory of prior involvement with military or any sort of ranks.]

There could have been other ways of delaying the ships. Something about the planet was dangerous to some.

You are unable to reach the Admiral? Have you contacted others of rank?

It wasn't the planet that was dangerous. Don't you get it? It's the Gate. There had never been any reports of strange goings-on on Pallas once, not before we arrived. No, that's wrong. The fruit was the only thing they were warned against eating, but seeing as it didn't outright kill anyone, we let people make their own decisions. Somehow, though, no matter where we are, the Gate keeps on affecting everyone, especially you otherworlders. [he pauses to take another puff of his neo-cigarette] It's like we're going around with a bloody target on our backs.

There isn't anyone else of rank to contact. Farix and me are next in line, and I know he doesn't know a damn thing either. Nobody else in the entire Alliance is privy to any information regarding this mission. We're on our own.

[Oliver's expression, for once, is deadly serious] Did you know about this, too?

[he doesn't answer immediately, but when he does, Menaeus wears an expression that could match Oliver's own] You couldn't be more specific, could you? There are a number of things I couldn't remember until now.

[he can't help it--this time, he's angry] That the Gate's been on the Gauntlet all along! That all this was just to use us!

[he snorts] Of all the cheek... [he composes himself] Would you believe me if I said no? If I told you my own memories had been tampered with along with Farix and Major Kusanagi's, would you truly believe me?

[raises an eyebrow in surprise. he didn't expect to be addressed] Have you? [silly question; he knows if the crew are contacting him, then it's important] All right, be there in a mo'. Gotta take care of something quick--! [he shuts his Sphere off just as a laser blast whizzes by]
