Just got a nice message about my gastric bypass diary

I received an interesting e-mail from someone who read my gastric bypass surgery diary:

After twelve years I imagine you still get a ton of emails about this. I hope that they haven’t worn you out, and I’ll try and keep this short. I read the entire diary, which is quite a feat as most things I read on the internet don’t hold my interest for more ( Read more... )

I've read your gastric bypass diary several times. It's really helpful. I've been considering surgery (best shot of getting diabetes under control/gone) at Fair Oaks. I've been asking folks who've had bariatric surgery if they mind telling me if, years down the road, they are glad they had the surgery. If you feel like sharing, I'd love to know your answer, but I respect if you'd prefer not to answer.

I'd have it 10 times over, but you should go to the INOVA Fair Oaks Staple Club meetings and talk to people who have had difficulties with the surgery and how they overcame them. I'll go with you if you like.

That's really helpful to hear. Thanks for your offer to attend with me. I might really like that. I looked at their website, and see they have the Journey Together support group on the third Monday night. Is that the Staple Club? If it's all right, I'll stay in touch here on LJ, and let you know if I want to go.

My intel says....

Mon 5/7 6p Staple Club, RESTON HOSPITAL CENTER, 1850 TOWN CENTER PARKWAY RESTON VA 20190
CONFERENCE ROOM C (Located on the 1st floor of Reston Hospital)

.... But my confidence is weak. I intend to attend this, as this and another discussion has convinced me that it's time for me to go.

I also decided against GBS because of the strict post-op routine. I chose the Duodenal Switch because it is much easier to live with for me. If you're still in contact with that person they may want to hear about the DS as an option.
