Almost 1/4 of my user icons are from the new Sherlock Holmes movie. I have seen it 4 times. I am such a nerd, I can't even decide which one to use for this post.

I really, really, REALLY enjoyed that movie! I was surprised because from the initial buzz about it I was concerned that it was going to be ridiculous and over the top. And then I decided to stop taking myself so seriously, heh.
It kind of was both those things. The story was a little weak, and, tbh, it gets a little plot-holier every time I watch it, but I will forgive almost everything because the onscreen chemistry between Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law was amazing.
AMAZING.
Watson: "Get that out of my face."
Holmes: "It's not in your face, it's in my hand."
Watson: (sighs) "Get what's in your hand out of my face."
It was so nice to see a Watson who wasn't portrayed as a bumbling old fool, just a foil for Holmes' brilliance, and I was actually quite pleased at RDJ's Holmes. I paid attention to him a little more the last time I watched it, and was not surprised to discover that he watched one of the series of Jeremy Brett as Holmes - some of his mannerisms were very Brett, which was neat.
I liked that they touched fairly lightly but repeatedly on how distraught Holmes actually is that Watson is leaving him to get married. There are only 4 canon stories that aren't narrated by Watson: one or possibly two are in third person, and the other two are narrated by Holmes. One of these takes place right after Watson's marriage, about which Holmes says (writes, I guess) it was "the only selfish thing [Watson] had ever done." In the movie he seems to know he's being childish about it ("Are they EXTENSIVE?") but it's not like he's any good at coming out and saying what he feels, so he tries underhanded means to get Watson to admit how much Watson is going to miss their cases, which will let him out of having to say the same.
Or something, heh.
oop, time to go to work. I will probably ramble more about this later.
