RIP powerbook...

Jul 15, 2010 17:18

My computer died this morning. :(

It slid off the couch onto the floor, which wasn't too far a distance, but the hard drive was spinning at the time and now it won't boot up - it just makes a hiccuping spinny sound and doesn't boot.

Good thing I was planning on a new computer, but it's still pretty sad. ;_;

Aww. The death of a beloved device is always sad :p Perhaps it can be fixed though, it might have just been knocked off centre a bit? (I'm not suggesting you open it up yourself, laptops are sneaky, but maybe cheaper to repair than replace)

Edit: Oh, and I love the D20 icon.

Argh, that is suck.

FWIW, I'm a complete n00b when it comes to tech fixing and I did (eventually and with much angst) replace the HD in the powerbook I'm using at the moment.

Because the six-month-old macbook is b0rkd and I still haven't figured out what's wrong with the thing.

Will it go into Target mode? (hold down T on boot)
If so, firewire to your main and see if you can salvage your data.
(presuming you have a firewire port)

If not, reset the PMU (CMD-OPT-P-R) and try then.
