...walked three blocks from where i parked my car to my apartment in downtown birmingham near all the clubs on a saturday night with my shotgun slung over my shoulder wearing a shirt that says "Trust me...I'm a doctor".

well, i've always wanted to get into shooting...i've only ever fired a gun once (other than the Red Ryder BB gun) and that was last year. after talking with several knowledgeable friends (alabama has *lots* of people knowledgeable about guns) i decided that a shotgun was the best all-around type of gun for the best price. you can load it with different types of shot, depending on what youre hunting - birds, deer, rabbit, squirrel, whatever; you can still target practice via skeet shooting...though its not the same type of precision as targeting with a rifle; and, should i ever have to resort to using it to protect myself, it packs enough to stop someone (not that i'm paranoid about protection...it was last on my list of priorities
