I was going about the normal task of changing bass strings. It went smoothly. Until, that is, I tried to clip the excess from the E string. Why? The G string (brand new) got clipped with it. Now I'm going to eat $10 and get a new string. Which probably means I'll have to take this set off and leave it here since I'm leaving THURSDAY for the gig and ( Read more... )

I know it is a dirty guitar habit, but I weave excess strings around the headstock, regardless of how messy it might look. Paranoia.

My bass (Fender) is designed for the string ends to be shoved down into the center of the post, and therefore I have to cut excess string ends before threading the string If I tried the ole weave-the-excess trick the strings would pop out. But thanks anyway. (Next bass I get I'm replacing the tuners so that I don't have to do this ritual clipping.)
