i think the only reason is because they think most people would rather read about the football team than the marching band, which i dont agree with. but even though that is a good letter, i doubt it will make an impact on the naperville sun. football is always gonna be the number one thing at north, and most highschools, although i dont agree with that, i guess we learn to live with it. congrats on all the accomplishments that the marching band has made.
I hate to say so, but I have to agree with Ian. Nobody gets enough glory, but newspapers don't do things because they want to give recognition to those who deserve it, but rather, they do what sells.
What would sell better? "Naperville North Football Team beats Naperville Central in a heated match!" or, "Naperville North Bagpipe Team out-pipes the Redhawks!"
Non-mainstream things get no credit. I'm sure everybody is proud of the cross country, band, and swim team, but unfortunately, nobody cares. Football sells, band doesn't.
Although I do agree that the band didn't get enough recognition, I also think that one letter won't do much. Looks like both of us fight losing battles, eh?
I'm just going to ignore both of you, and pretend I was never insulted (and if you're mad about something not getting enough recongnition, then do something about it)
You weren't insulted. I agree with your cause, I'm just saying that I doubt anything will happen. Big companies don't care about us, that's just how it goes.
Ok, you know what? The XC team just got its first interview today. What does that tell you? No one cares about minority sports. Im sorry, its just the facts. I agree with ian and jeff. Stop complaining, and get over the fact that you arent recognized enough. You shouldnt worry about that period. Im on the state team, and yet I dont race. I am eighth place on a team that races seven kids. Im there just in case someone gets hurt. In other words, I do other things, like course analyzation, timings, pacing, and strategical work. So what is the XC article going to say: Thanks to the thought and planning of a specific team of alternate athletes, NNHS won regionals, or The Coaching of David Racey brings the NNHS XC team to a victory? Even though a lot of the work went to Racey, my team of alternates brought in a lot of major strategical ideas and plans. So.... Long story short... GET OVER IT.
I know, I know. It's the same thing with all the guard politics. I just got flustered and did something in the heat of the moment. honestly, I know they won't print it. It just made me feel better to write it.
