Does Wrigley chew or lick himself? My basset used to obsessively chew/lick himself when left alone and the telltale sign (besides his bald butt) was a big wet spot on the couch. It sounds like its probably slobber though - what a drooly boy!
My old Gretel used to drool a lot when left by herself sometimes. Certainly possible. We have another dog now that sometimes licks his feet to the point that whatever is underneath them gets pretty damp.
I am betting it is drool as well. Thor does this all the time. It is the main reason why we don't let him bring toys with him if he sleeps with us. He gets to chewing and he is so hard-headed and stubborn that he will chew himself into a trance, and then one of us ends up rolling over into a huge drool spot in the bed. Silly bassets!
