You want the penryn just for the fact that that processor uses less power and you'll be able to run it a bit longer. For music creation the larger hard drive would be nicer, and the faster the drive is better for writing/reading, but really, it's a toss up.
It really comes down to what you want to pay. I might say to go with the faster one since Macs are pretty much "buy me and then if you want something better, buy a new one and throw me away."
Looking at the specs on Apple's website, they both have Penryn processors, so that doesn't appear to be a factor in this decision. The only other things you get with that extra $500 is a VERY slight increase in speed and cache (I doubt it'll be enough to make a difference for you), double the memory of the video card (which won't matter to you cause you don't play video games), and 50GB more hard drive space which is a decent amount but I think you can do fine with 200GB of hard drive space. The hard drive can be upgraded later anyways, so see how the 200GB works out for you.
Bottom line: you personally won't get enough out of the more expensive laptop to justify the price difference. :)

Bottom line: you personally won't get enough out of the more expensive laptop to justify the price difference. :)
