I'm glad to hear someone else feels the same way as I do. There's nothing like the magic I felt back in 1977 when I saw it the first time. The whole set of three were great. But I have been totally unable to have any desire to hurry up and go see the last one. It's nothing but a big CGIfest without any real substance.
I saw the trailer when I went to see Murder by Death. And that movie doesn't stick in my head nearly as much as the trailer I saw. My friends and I were buzzing for weeks (or was it months) just waiting to see this thing. Yeah, I saw the trailer four months before the movie hit the screens.
There were, admittedly, some cool scenes in the prequels. But, for the most part, it just seemed so...bland? And scenes that COULD have been incredibly cool were, instead, handled so poorly that it came off as slapstick...Such as the Yoda/Count Dooku duel in ATTACK OF THE CLONES. Yoda, who I always wanted to see fight like the wise old samurai of Kurasawa films...calmly, tactfully, gracefully with an air of "I am more bad-ass than you can POSSIBLY imagine"...was, instead, turned into Sonic the Hedgehog.
I didnt see the other 2 until a few months ago when my ex roomate rented em . This one I wanna see. I think that General Grievous looks awesome. Other than that I dont much give a shit about the movie. OB-Wan is kinda slick ... and Christopher Lee rules but everyone else ...psssht ... who cares. They dont got Han Solo ... no Solo = no good. Mace windu is ok but everytime i see him i'm waiting for him to say "mother fuckin" and be the normal samual jackson . I also miss Billy Dee.
The only thing I "give a shit about" in this movie is Vader. I would happily pay money for the ticket, stand outside and have have on of the ushers come out and let me know when the whole "Birth of Vader" thing is about to go down.
Then I would go in and watch. It is probably the only reason I am going to see this at all.
