Frank Gorshin, the character-actor who played the Riddler on the delightfully campy 60's BATMAN TV series (and Pittsburgh native), died today at the age of 72...
you know what was awesome about him? He was such a good sport about his Batmanyness. Some of them, like Caeser Romero and Burgess Meredith, were all cranky about it and didn't like talking about it. Gorshin may have been the most gracious to fans.
he recently did a stage production called "Goodnight, Gracie" where he played George Burns and, if I remember correctly, a friend of mine (Randy) bumped into him and he was really friendly.
Bummer. He was probably the TV villian (from Batman) that I liked the most.
Funny story; a few weeks ago I stopped at a friend's house and he had just put on the 60's Batman DVD. We never noticed it before, but Caesar Romero still had his mustache, they just put the white Joker make-up over it. It was very creepy.
damn it .... I will watch the old batman movie tonight in his honer. Plus I love the scene with the rubber shark ... and the bomb scene....and oh hell i just love that whole movie

By the way, did you like my Crispin Glover Joker?

There's something to be said for that show, though...I think simply because it was SO bizzarre.
